Individuals and businesses with a filing or payment due date of April 17 will now have until midnight on Wednesday, April 18. Taxpayers do not need to do anything to receive this extra time, according to IR-2018-100.
The IRS had had technical difficulties with the agency’s electronic filing and online payment systems. A “hard reboot” of the agency’s system was attempted to remedy these technical issues but they were unable to bring these systems back online until late Tuesday, as reported by the Washington Post.
